Testing !eld-moist soil samples improves the assessment of potassium needs by crops
نویسنده
چکیده
Since 1989 and until the summer of this year, all soil testing laboratories in Iowa and the USA dried soil samples at 35 to 40 oC (95 to 104 oF) and ground them before analysis for potassium (K), phosphorus (P), and other nutrients. Since early fall, however, a laboratory that began operations in Iowa is using testing procedures that involve no soil sample drying, and another laboratory operating in Iowa and other states is offering moist soil testing in addition to the commonly used test based on dried samples. These laboratories are using a moist sample handling procedure that the Iowa State University (ISU) Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory used and recommended from 1963 to 1988. The re-implementation of the moist test by these laboratories has generated many questions from Iowa farmers and crop consultants.

Reimplementation of Moist Soil Testing to Improve the Assessment of Crop-Available Potassium in Iowa Soils
Since 1989 and until the summer of 2012 all soil testing laboratories in Iowa and the USA dried soil samples at 35 to 40 oC (95 to 104 oF) before soil analysis for potassium (K), phosphorus (P), and other nutrients. Since last fall, however, a laboratory that began operations in Iowa is using testing procedures that involve no soil sample drying, and another laboratory is offering moist soil te...
متن کاملRevision of Potassium Soil-test Interpretations and Fertilizer Recommendations
There is a long history of potassium (K) fertilization research in the North-Central Region. Sustained Iowa field research efforts have focused on developing soil-test K (STK) interpretation and studying the effect of K fertilization strategies on grain yield and STK. Because of changes in the soil-test K method used in Iowa, information published over time should be evaluated separately. Publi...

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) and rotational crops have been cultivated without potassium fertilizers for many years in southwestern Iran. Although potassium was removed from this soil, no response has been reported to K fertilizers by crops. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of wetting and drying, and cultivation systems on potassium fixation in some Khouzestan soils. Th...
